The head of the Butler County Tourism Bureau will be honored at a state conference next month for a local event.
President of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau Jack Cohen will be attending the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association’s Spring Conference at Skytop Resort in Skytop, Pa. on May 16. At the conference, Cohen will be presented with the ‘Event of the Year Award’ from the Keystone Society for Tourism for starting the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival.
“They asked about the best event and we submitted the Jeep Fest,: Cohen said. “We talked about the five years of the Jeep event and the success it’s had and how we celebrated its 75th anniversary of the creation of the Jeep. Sure enough, they thought that we should be honored.”
This award is not given on a regular basis so Cohen was unsure what to expect when the Bureau applied for the recognition earlier this year.
“There’s not been that many that have received the award. I don’t know the exact number of people that have won in the past but this is something that they re-instituted this year and it’s been a while since I’ve seen it given out,” Cohen explained.
The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival in entering its sixth year and the tourism bureau recently turned over control of the event to the organization ‘Friends of the Bantam Jeep Association.’
