The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies 9-8 last night in 12-innings. Jordy Mercer drove in Gregory Polanco with a double to win the game. The Bucs have now won eight consecutive games in Denver.
The Rockies battled back from a 7-0 deficit to eventually tie the game and force extra innings. Pirate starter Jon Niese allowed five runs on 10 hits over five innings. Kyle Lobstein threw three scoreless innings in relief and Mark Melancon picked up his fifth save. The Pirates had 15 hits in the game.
The Pirates go for the four-game sweep this afternoon. First pitch is 3:10pm. Hear the game on WISR 680am beginning at 2:45pm. Juan Nicasio will start for the Pirates. The Bucs return home to host Cincinnati beginning tomorrow night.
