Butler City Council is considering trying to collect money from insurance companies for some of their fire calls.
Councilwoman Kathy Kline researched the idea of contracting with a company, at no cost to the city, who would attempt to collect from insurance companies of those who use fire services.
PA Fire Recovery Service has been in business for 12 years and is used by several fire departments in this area, including Chicora and Emlenton. This company would access existing city fire department software to get information then keep 15 percent of whatever was collected as their fee.
The city already has existing ordinances on the books to allow for collections like this but would likely seek to update them to allow for full collection of the amounts they may be entitled to.
