The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-1 in the opening game of a four-game series last night in Denver. Pirate starting pitcher Jeff Locke struck out eight batters over six scoreless innings and reliever A.J. Schugel picked up his first major league save closing the final three innings. Matt Joyce hit a three-run home run as the Bucs improved to 11-9 overall. They visit the Rockies again tonight. Gerrit Cole will start for the Pirates. First pitch is 8:40pm.
