The anticipated deficit for Butler Area School District’s 2016-2017 budget is not as steep as originally anticipated.
Thanks to a meticulous line-by-line review accounting for every dollar by Director of Business Services Deb Brandstetter and other Butler administrators, a preliminary anticipated deficit of nearly $7 million has been revised to nearly $4 million.
This figure includes a 3-mil tax increase and money from selling two closed school buildings. Items anticipated to be cut from next year’s budget include new band uniforms, a technology program for very young children, professional development funds and money dedicated to capital projects. The district would also be financing a large technology purchase instead of buying it outright.
With these changes, the district could cover the shortfall using the money in their general fund and still maintain the required amount of money in that account.
