The Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3-1 series lead over the New York Rangers in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff series last night following a 5-0 victory. The Penguins were 3-of-5 on the power play last night, led by Evgeni Malkin who scored twice and had two assists. All but one of Malkin’s points came via the power play. The Pens held the Rangers scoreless on four power play tries. Goaltender Matt Murray became the first Penguins rookie to shutout a team in the post-season, making 31 saves in the game. The Pens host the Rangers for game five of the series Saturday at Consol Energy Center. Face-off is 3pm. Hear the game on WISR 680am beginning at 2:30pm.
The Tampa Bay Lightning won their best-of-seven series over the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 following a 1-0 victory last night.
In the West, defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks remained alive in their series with St. Louis following a 4-3 win in double overtime. The Blues lead the series 3-2.
Anaheim defeated Nashville 4-1 to even their series 2-2.
