A Renfrew man has been charged following an incident with police in the city of Butler over the weekend.
According to Butler City Police, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Jay Vinroe on West Cunningham Street on Saturday around 11:30 p.m.
Police say that instead of pulling over, Vinroe accelerated and led police on a chase through the city to Whitetown Road where he allegedly turned off all his lights in an attempt to hide from police. At that point, Vinroe allegedly crashed into the Sherwood Lanes building which was open at the time but no one was injured.
Vinroe left his vehicle but was stopped a short time later by Butler Township Police in the area of Hansen Avenue walking briskly towards Lyndora Auto Sales. Vinroe was booked into the Butler County Prison on charges including Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer, Driving without Lights to Avoid Apprehension, and Driving Under the Influence.
