The Butler Area School District is purchasing new elementary math and social studies textbooks for their secondary schools.
The school board approved spending nearly $900,000 on the new books during a meeting Monday. The expense is expected to be divided between at least the next two years’ budgets.
Butler administrators had been on a seven-year rotation with replacing books but fell behind due to budget concerns. The district is looking into alternative financing options but would not pay any interest on the $900,000 if they are able to pay in two years.
The books will be available next month for public display and teachers will receive instruction and professional development sessions before the end of this school year to prepare to use the books next year.
