The Clinton Township secretary who was fired earlier this month over $6,000 was found missing has officially been charged.
Margaret “Maggie” Nelson, 51, of Saxonburg faces theft and fraud charges. She is currently free on bail.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Butler State Police, Nelson wrote herself a $5,800 check from the township’s account but documented it in the books as a check paid to Interstate Pipe & Supply.
She is also accused of using a township credit card to make a $500 purchase from the Home Shopping Network.
Nelson allegedly told police her intentions were to pay the money back and that she had already paid back the $500 from the HSN purchase.
A hearing has not yet been set.
