The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is celebrating their 150th anniversary Wednesday.
In addition to today’s quarterly business meeting, a special public event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the State Museum in Harrisburg. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend and learn more about the history of the agency and its future.
The commission was formed in 1866 due to concerns about the effects of water pollution on fish and today it is made up of over 430 staff. The commission is funded by license and registrations fees, as well as taxes on fishing and boating equipment.
