The Butler Area School District is facing a nearly $7 million deficit for next school year…which could lead to a 3 mill property tax hike.
The preliminary budget was presented Monday night to the school board.
The current property tax rate for the district is 94.8 mills. The preliminary budget for the 2016-2017 school year included the maximum tax increase allowed by law, which would hike up the rate to 97.8 mills.
The average district taxpayer would pay about $53 more.
