The county will save about $25,000 this year by temporarily merging two positions in the wake of a retirement.
Instead of hiring a new county Car Pool Director this year after the current director retired, the commissioners decided to put the car pool responsibilities onto the county’s current Bridge Manager…and name the new position the Bridge & Fleet Director.
The Bridge & Fleet Director will be paid an additional 16,500 this year to perform the extra work. But, because the Car Pool Director was paid a salary of $51,000, the county will see a savings of about $25,000.
At the end of the year, the commissioners will decide whether a full-time Car Pool Director is needed.
