The Mars boys basketball team have reached the PIAA championship game for the first time in school history following an 80-62 victory over Bishop McDevitt last night. Robby Carmody led the Planets with 20 points. John Costello added 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The duo hit 14 of 15 free throws in the game.
Mars will face Neumann-Goretti in Hershey Friday night for the Triple-A championship. Neumann-Goretti has won five of the past six state title. Tip-off will be 8pm.
The Aliquippa boys improved to 28-0 following a 55-52 win over Lincoln Park last night at Geneva College. The ‘Quips will face Mastery CharterSaturday in the Double-A state championship game.
Taylor Allderdice topped Reading 70-45 in the Quad-A semifinals, and will meet Roman Catholic Saturday in the title game.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls will head to Hershey this weekend following a 49-43 win over Bishop Guilfoyle. Sam Breen led North Catholic with 20 points. The Trojanettes will meet Lourdes Regional Saturday at noon in the Single-A championship.
The North Allegheny girls fell to two-time defending Quad-A champion Cumberland Valley 43-42 via two last second free throws.
Erie Cathedral Prep won the PIHL Triple-A Penguins Cup title last night with a 4-3 overtime win over North Allegheny in Cranberry Township.
The Butler high school Boys Tennis Team swept Gateway 5-0 Tuesday.
Cam Sedwick at #2 singles and Trevor and Tyler Bell at #2 doubles swept their matches 6-0,6-0 to lead Butler.
