A judge has ruled in favor of the Butler Area School District in a large tax appeal case.
Judge S. Michael Yeager found the value of the property owned by Armco Advanced Materials Corporation to be $18.62 million. This figure was arrived at by the appraiser contracted by the district while the amount put forward by an appraiser for Armco was $10 million less.
The value of the property will still be cut from $25 million to the $18.62 million, which results in a loss of about $100,000 in tax money for the school district. However, the investment in their own appraisal prevents the district from losing an additional $100,000.
Armco can appeal this decision to the commonwealth court but they have already filed another tax assessment challenge for the upcoming tax year.
