For the first time, Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh will offer Presanctified Liturgies in Butler County.
The Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts will be held every Wednesday during the Orthodox Great Fast (also known as Lent) beginning this week. The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Place in Cranberry Township.
The public is welcome to attend to experience this ancient Eastern liturgical practice.
Orthodox Lent is calculated similarly to the Lent of Western Churches, but not exactly the same. The Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on May 1 this year.
