An increase in 911 calls may lead Butler County to hire two additional full-time dispatchers.
County Emergency Services Director Steve Bicehouse says the increase stems from when the county started handling Butler City’s 911 calls, which started last June. Before then, the city handled and dispatched its own calls but decided to cease those operations to cut costs.
The additional work has led to a roughly 24 percent increase in call volume.
The new positions would cost the county about $67,000 per year but its currently paying about $77,000 in overtime costs.
The county salary board will vote on the matter next week.
