The Butler Area School District would like to use a new state option to make up one of the days missed as a result of transportation issues at the beginning of the year.
The School Board approved a resolution Monday night to allow Superintendent Dr. Brian White to apply to the state to use a Flexible Instructional Day—also known as FID—on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (November 27) so that students would get credit for a day of school without physically being in class.
If approved by the PA Department of Education, students would receive a take home kit of work required to be completed in order for the day to be counted as one of instruction. If the FID plan is not approved by the state, the day would be a normal in-class make up day.
Final determination by the state is due by November 1st. The other day missed as a result of the transportation problems will be made up as an ACT 80 day for parent/teacher conferences on Veterans Day. Students will be able to complete the required yearly instructional hours without the need to be in class that day.
