If you have a child or grandchild that is not a strong reader, there are some things you can do to help.
Pam Allen, Executive Director and Founder of LitWorld, is an advocate for childrens’ right to read and learn told us three specific things a parent or grandparent can do.
She says, “One is read aloud. Re-reading is a really positive thing for the growing reader. Number two is affirmation; small, daily affirmations around reading. And the third thing is giving your child access to books they really love.”
Allen created World Read Aloud Day, which took place late February. She says Read Aloud provides a mentor to a child to Read Aloud to create excitement around reading, develop better communication, and create confidence as well.
