A Butler County Community College student has received the highest score in the state in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition.
Because Maizee Zaccone had the highest score in Pennsylvania, she was named a 2016 New Century Scholar.
The New Century Scholars Program and the All-USA Community College Academic Teamp Program share a common application and together recognize outstanding community College students. More than 1,900 students were nominated from 1,000 community colleges across the country. Judges consider grades, leadership, activities and most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.
New Century Scholars are the highest scoring students in each state.
Zaccone received a $2,000 scholarship and will be recognized in Chicago in April during the American Association of Community Colleges Convention.
“We congratulate Maizee for her excellence inside and outside of the classroom,” BC3 President Nick Neupauer said in a statement. “BC3 was recently ranked the top community college in the state by Schools.com and now we are proud to say we have the top scoring student in Pennsylvania as well.”
Zaccone is an English major at BC3. She is also a 2014 Butler High School grad.
“My professors and teachers at BC3 have been some of my greatest heroes and role models, proving their undying belief in me,” Maizee said.
