Former Valdosta State University quarterbacks coach Justin Roper, who played quarterback at the University of Oregon and the University of Montana, has been named offensive coordinator at Slippery Rock University. Roper comes to The Rock after spending two seasons on the coaching staff at Valdosta State in Georgia, where he helped the Blazers to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Following a record-breaking high school career, he was recruited by schools in the SEC, ACC, Big 10 and Pac 12, but Roper signed to play at the University of Oregon, where he would play quarterback in offensive systems under Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly. He entered coaching after an injury ended his Arena Football League career. Roper replaces former SRU offensive coordinator Zack Patterson, who left in late February to become running backs coach at Sam Houston State.
The Rock will open official spring practices soon and will conclude the spring with the annual Green and White game Friday, April 22 at 5 p.m.
