Plans to remodel the former Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company office building in Butler is moving ahead following a public hearing Tuesday night in front of Butler City officials.
Representatives of the WODA Group (out of Westerville, Ohio) spoke to Butler City Council members about their desire to rehab the property into 62 affordable senior housing units. The one-and-two-bedroom apartments would be age-restricted for those 62 years old and older.
After being vacant for 33 years, the Hansen Avenue building would be restored to its original condition and become a national registered landmark. A small addition would also be constructed and a full-time manager and maintenance staff would live onsite.
WODA anticipates petitioning the state for tax credits beginning in March. If they receive positive results in June, they are prepared to begin construction in the fall. That would allow the facility to open in late summer of 2017 or spring of 2018.
