High School Sports:
The Butler High School Cross Country teams won the 46th annual McDowell Invitational Saturday. Returning junior state qualifier Skyler Vavro led the Golden Tornado with a sixth-place finish. Sophomores CJ Singleton, Sage Vavro and senior Tim Patterson were 7th,8th and 10th overall.
For the Butler Girls team – senior Chelsey Kavel finished 5th. Autumn Pettinato and Jenn Cichra were sixth and seventh.
The BC3 Women’s Volleyball team swept Penn State-Beaver 3-0 Saturday. Morgan Malinski led the Lady Pioneers with 15 assists. Maddy McAninch had 26 digs and four aces. BC3 improved to 2-0.
Former Slippery Rock University running back Wes Hills did not make the 53-man roster for the Arizona Cardinals. He took an injury settlement from the team after being cut following training camp.
The Slippery Rock University football team, ranked 10th in the nation in Division II, will begin their season Thursday against Wayne State. Kick-off is Detroit is 6pm. Hear the game on The Rock Station 97.7fm beginning at 5:30pm with Coach Shawn Lutz Show.
