The Butler Girls Indoor Track & Field team won the TSTCA Indoor Championships on Saturday at Edinboro University. Butler had 59 points, second place went to the defending champion Hempfield High School with 57 points. Going into the final event – the 1600 meter relay – Butler had 53 – 47 lead over Hempfield. The Butler 1600 meter relay team of Odile Enslen, Emily Horstman, Shana Hoy and Alexis Leech finished in 3rd place to clinch the title – all while setting a new school record and qualifying for the PA Indoor State Championship next Sunday at Penn State University. The 3200 Meter Relay team of Abby Boyle, Emma LeMay, Erin LeMay and Liz Simms won the first event of the meet and set the set the tone for the day.
Senior Emily Horstman had another outstanding meet – winning the 60 meter dash and placing second in the 200 meter dash. In doing so – she broke her own school records in each event that she set last week. She also anchored the victorious 800 meter relay team and was part of the 1600 meter relay team that placed third. First year runner and Junior Alexis Leech continued her excellent season with a 5th place finish in the 400 meter dash and was part of the 800 meter relay team and anchored the 1600 meter relay to a third place and the team championship!
