An unmarked Butler Township police car was likely totaled after crashing Sunday afternoon while trying to pull a motorcyclist over.
The incident happened about 2:30 p.m. on Route 422.
Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said one of his officers attempted to pull over the biker for traffic violations between the Route 8 north and Lyndora exits but the driver would not stop.
The pursuit continued on Route 422 westbound into Franklin Township, where a state police officer joined in.
The Butler Township officer had to swerve to miss the state police car and ended up traveling off the roadway and crashing through a pile of cut firewood.
The officer was not hurt but the township’s 2015 Ford Interceptor Sedan was severely damaged, likely beyond repair.
“The biggest thing is that my officer is OK,” Chief Hays said Monday. “In my opinion, the car is likely totaled.”
Hays believes the motorcyclist got away.
