The public is invited to a free event this weekend that shines a spotlight on the history of our area.
Rodney Gasch of the organization Washington’s Trail 1753 talks about what is being offered, “If you are interested in history, we’ve got some things for that. If you’re interested in winter exercise, we’ve got that. If you’re interested in cherry pie, we’ve got that as well.”
The Cherry Pie Hike scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at Jennings Environmental Education Center beginning at 8:45 a.m.
Guided hikes of different lengths will start throughout the day and reenactors will portray an encounter between a young George Washington and Native Americans of this area in 1753. Refreshments will also be provided.
“The cherry pie is generously donated by North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock. This year, one of the sponsors is also the Butler County Tourism office and they are donating hot apple cider and cookies if cherry pie isn’t your thing. It will be just a great day to get out and experience nature and experience history,” Gasch explained.
The event is made possible through a grant obtained by the Butler Chapter of the North Country Trail Association. Those interested in reserving a spot for one of the hikes should contact the Harmony Museum at 724-452-7341.
