Snow and speed are to blame after one person was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after a three car crash on Saturday (2/13).
The Mercer State Police say that around 10:30am Saturday, a tractor trailer driven by 64-year-old John Curtin of New Jersey was traveling on I-80 in Wolf Creek Township when he came up behind a car driven by 72-year-old Richard Wolfgang of Du Bois.
Authorities say that Curtin then lost control of his tractor trailer on the snow covered roadway, and rear ended Wolfgang’s car. Wolfgang’s car then spun around and was hit a second time by Curtin head-on before Wolfgang hit a third vehicle.
When first responders arrived to the scene, Wolfgang’s car was off of the roadway, with the third car pinned between the guardrail and Curtain’s tractor trailer.
Officials say that all three drivers, and one passenger were wearing seatbelts. Wolfgang, however, suffered unknown severe injuries, and was flown from the Grove City Medical Center to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The investigation is on-going.
