The Butler Area School District is pushing back the first day of school due to continuing problems associated with student transportation.
A message posted to the district’s website says that the first day of school for students will be Tuesday, September 3rd. The first day of classes had originally been planned for tomorrow (Thursday).
Superintendent Brian White said transportation software failed again Wednesday morning leaving the district temporarily without access. In addition, the Tyler Student Information System is not displaying transportation information for all students.
White says the safety and well-being of students will always be his top priority and the determination was made that starting classes Thursday will not ensure the safety of students. The delay will also allow bus drivers to do a dry run for each route to check for hazards.
The software issues first caused the district to be delayed in sending out student transportation cards that detailed bus routes, and then discovered students were being assigned to the wrong routes altogether. Private school transportation will continue as scheduled.
It is not yet known when or how the two days students will miss due to this issue will be made up.
