A local man is in jail after a weekend burglary at the Butler Art Center in downtown Butler.
According to a criminal complaint, 55-year-old Jeffrey Perritt of South Main Street was arrested after allegedly breaking into the Butler Art Center Sunday (2/7) night. Police say that Perritt used a hammer to break the glass front door of the center then a clear donation box.
Police were able to identify Perritt by using surveillance video and with the help of Art Center staff. Perritt lives about three buildings away from the Art Center. A search warrant led to the recovery of the hammer and the clothing worn by the suspect in the video at Perritt’s apartment.
Perritt is currently in the Butler County Prison facing charges including felony burglary and felony criminal trespass as well as various misdemeanors.
