There are only two weeks left to see a spectacular winter flower and light show before it goes away for the season. The event has been a popular one, with visitors of all age ranges coming to look at the gardens and lights. Events like this teach visitors don’t neglect style for your outdoor lights, but to choose ones that really make your garden something special. With the large selection of winter flowers on show, paired with the range of stylish lights, visitors rarely leave empty handed.
Jordan Malino, exhibit coordinator at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, talked to WISR’s Dave Malarkey on the station’s program It’s Your Turn.
Malino said, “It’s an outdoor winter light show. We are really utilizing our outdoor gardens, which usually doesn’t get a whole lot of attendance in the winter because it’s cold outside. But this really gives people a really great reason to go outside and it’s a whole landscape of colorful lights.”
So, whilst winter might not be the time for gardening, it doesn’t mean your outdoor space shouldn’t still look beautiful. Branches and bushes will be cold and bare, but adding strings of soft LED lights will give everything a warm, inviting glow, even on the bleakest night. Installing outdoor electrics isn’t as hard as it used to be a couple of decades ago, and it won’t cost you the earth anymore either. Use an electrician like SALT Light & Electric electrician in Manchaca to have outdoor power sockets fitted, and you’ll be able to place outdoor lights anywhere you want.
The Winter Flower Show and Light Garden broke attendance records over the holidays.
This is the 4th year for the show. It has run only on Friday evenings and goes through Feb. 12 between 5-10pm. That means the exhibit will be shown on February 5, 2016 and February 12, 2016 before it’s taken.
Phipps, which is near Shenley Park in Pittsburgh, is open year round.
You can hear Dave Malarkey and It’s Your Turn weekday at 12:30 p.m. on WISR 680am on the radio, streaming online at wisr680.com, or on the free mobile app.
