An early Tuesday morning fire severely damaged a Slippery Rock Township home.
The blaze started about 1:30 a.m. at a one-story brick house on Harmony Road.
Assistant Chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company Al Taggart said the homeowner was able to escape safely.
“The lady who lived there just happened to get up…she can’t remember what woke her,” Taggart said. “But she was able to get out of the house.”
Taggart says the state police fire marshal’s office is investigating but the cause was likely a clogged chimney. Damage is estimated at roughly $100,000. The home is unlivable.
“The fire is not suspicious,” he said. “The chimney was full of debris. It hadn’t been cleaned.”
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the blaze under control. They cleared the scene about 4 a.m.
