The City of Butler now officially has a Parking Manager.
Butler City Council unanimously approved Jim Chiprean to the newly created position Thursday night.
Councilwoman Kathy Kline had been opposed to the $30,000 salary for the part-time position but changed her mind when a provision was added to the motion to allow for assessment and adjustment after one year.
Chiprean was the chairman of the all-volunteer Parking Authority, which was dissolved with some controversy in December.
In a written statement, Chiprean thanked Mayor Tom Donaldson and the entire City Council for entrusting him to direct a “first class parking system for a third class city. I’m looking forward to the future with modernization plans and new technology. I’ve worked countless hours on the Centre City Parking Garage and is looking forward to its opening this summer. With city of Butler revitalization plans already in place, let’s make downtown Butler our number one destination.”
