As students gear up to soon head back to college, they’re urged to be up-to-date with their vaccinations.
One of the biggest concerns- according to the state health department- is meningitis.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord and can be easily spread through the air. Department Spokesperson Nate Wardle said Meningitis B is “somewhat common” on college campuses.
Symptoms can include high fever, vomiting, headache, stiff neck, nausea and sensitivity to light.
“This can be extremely serious and potentially deadly,” Wardle said.
There were two cases of meningitis on a college campus in Pennsylvania last year.
