The Salvation Army of Butler’s Red Kettle Campaign surpassed its $97,000 goal this year.
Major Irene Thibault said the only reason the center was able to collect about $102,000 is because of the generosity of local residents.
“The people of Butler have a heart to help others that are in need,” Major Thibault told our newsroom Thursday. “Their hearts are there.”
Major Thibault also praised all of the volunteers that stood at various kettle location sites throughout the county for hours.
“Our volunteers really have a special investment into helping the people that we serve,” she said.
A last-minute anonymous donation of $10,000 helped push the center over its goal.
The Red Kettle campaign ran throughout the holiday season and wrapped up Christmas Eve. The funds will be used for various projects throughout 2016 including in the soup kitchen, food pantry, to facilitate children and teen after-school programs, and to help purchase home furnishings for residents affected by fire.
The Butler Salvation Army will not need to make any cuts to its programs this year.
