The new board of Butler County commissioners met for their first official meeting Wednesday morning.
Chairwoman Leslie Osche said the board is still combing through the 2016 budget recently-passed by the former commissioners and focusing on distinct areas including cash flow, confirming revenue numbers and staffing.
Osche said the board is not planning on laying anyone off but rather looking at positions within departments that are budgeted for but no one is actually employed to that position.
“It’s a long process,” Osche said Wednesday. “We have found some significant opportunities for savings.”
Commissioner Kim Geyer noted the board is re-evaluating how county departments are organized, especially as people retire from them.
“We are taking a more panoramic look of those departments,” Geyer said.
The board is expected to release more specific information on their budget findings next week.
