A Parker man is facing charges in connection with a deadly ATV crash that killed a teen.
Steven Ray Ryder, 33, appeared in Butler County court Tuesday afternoon, accused of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children.
Authorities allege the teen, 16-year-old Briggs Buck, asked Ryder via text message last February to buy him beer and Ryder did. That allegedly led to the pair, along with another teen, to drink together and ride around in a truck and an ATV.
Later that night, police say Buck was a passenger on the ATV when it crashed on Spruce Road in Fairview Township. The other teen was driving. Buck was killed. Police allege Ryder was driving behind the ATV in a truck and announced “I was never here” and left the scene.
The prosecution argued that alcohol purchased by Ryder caused the accident that led to the teen’s death.
It’s unclear if the teen driver has been charged.
