The Butler Township commissioners say they are unable to help concerned residents who are paying more for garbage collection this year.
Officials say they have received negative feedback from residents concerning a $60 increase in their annual Vogel Disposal contract.
The solicitor says the township made an extra effort to get bids from other companies to do the work in 2016 but Vogel was the only company to submit a qualified offer. By law, the township had no option but to award them the contract. While residents are more than welcome to view skip bins and other forms of garbage disposal, it appears as though there is nothing that can be done to prevent Vogel’s price increase for garbage collection.
The contract is for three years but township officials say they are looking into what options they might have on re-opening the contract sooner.
