No one was hurt in a house fire Thursday afternoon in Jackson Township.
Firefighters from seven departments were called to the multi-family home on Lutz Road about 3 p.m. after someone saw smoke coming out of windows on the second floor.
“The fire started in one of the upstairs apartments,” Harmony Fire District Chief Scott Garing. “There were two vehicles in the garage, so we assumed there were people in the home.”
It turned out no one was home in the two-story house, which is broken into three apartments.
“The fire couldn’t get enough oxygen to get going– all the doors and windows were closed– so it snuffed itself out,” Garing said.
The damage was mostly contained to one apartment, but all residents have been displaced.
“All power was shut off to the home,” Garing said.
Lutz Road was shut down between Route 19 and Zehner School Road as crews worked. Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 5 p.m.
The official cause of the fire is still under investigation but firefighters believe it was electrical in nature.
