If you’re hoping for a White Christmas, there’s always next year.
Tuesday is the official first full day of winter but the forecast is calling for highs in the upper-50s today and into the mid-60s on Christmas Eve, which could be a record breaker.
According to the National Weather Service, the record high for Dec. 24 is 66, set in 1932. We’re forecasted to hit 64 on Thursday. The record high for Christmas Day is 67 degrees, set in 1895. We’re forecasted to be in the mid-50s.
The record low for Christmas Day is 12 below, set in 1983. Just to note, the average high for Christmas Day is 37 degrees.
Many forecasters contribute the unseasonably warm temperatures to El Nino, which happens every few years when the Pacific Ocean warms up around the equator. A milder, warmer winter is predicted because of it.
