Four corrections officers from the Butler County Prison will be honored Tuesday for their life-saving actions last month.
Butler County Prison Warden Joe DeMore will present Captain Dave Winters, Sergeant Tyler Tracey, Officer Todd Walker, and Officer Matt Edgar with letters of commendation at Tuesday’s Prison Board Meeting. They are credited with saving an inmate’s life.
“An inmate went into cardiac arrest. The captain, sergeant, and two officers went into the cell with medical equipment. He was unconscious and not breathing and they revived him with CPR and they used the AED machine three times to shock him. By the time medical officials made it here he had a pulse again and he was transported to the hospital,” DeMore told our newsroom.
These kind of situations do not happen that often although, according to DeMore, but corrections officers do receive training to deal with any incident.
“They go through a yearly CPR certification which includes how to utilize the AED machine,” he said.
According to DeMore, the inmate has made a full recovery from his condition.
