If moviegoers look closely, they may once again see a Butler Health System facility on the big screen next week.
Scenes for Concussion, starring Will Smith, were shot in a lab at Butler Memorial Hospital.
“They came out here and looked around and took some photographs and did a little measuring. After evaluating all of that, they asked us if we would be willing to do it,” Dr. Robert Patterson told our newsroom.
Dr. Patterson is the Medical Director of Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, and Outreach for the Butler Health System.
Concussion will be released Christmas Day.
The movie is about a pathologist who did research in the Western Pennsylvania area on the effects of repeated violent contact on brains. Because the movie takes place over ten years ago, the current lab needed some modifications.
“They wanted it to look like the early 2000s so we had to take some of our more modern equipment out and get some things out of the basement to make it more realistic to what they were trying to achieve,” Dr. Patterson said.
It was the filming done on this movie that led to the filming of shots for Love The Coopers also done at Butler Memorial Hospital.
