The Pittsburgh Pirates have non-tendered infielder Pedro Alvarez, allowing the 28-year old slugger to become a free agent. Alvarez made just under $6 million last season. He batted .243 with 27 home runs, but had 23 errors at first base. If the Pirates had offered him a contract, he was in line for a nearly $3 million raise.
They also non-tendered outfielder Jaff Decker.
The Pirates did offer contracts to eight of their arbitration-eligible players, including Neil Walker, Mark Melancon and three other pitchers, both catchers and Jordy Mercer.
