A Butler County company is trying to make “National Adirondack Day” a thing.
Adams Manufacturing of Portersville is North America’s largest supplier of outdoor resin furniture. The Adirondack chair is one of their top sellers.
That got Director of Marketing Daniel Stainer thinking.
“I was listening to the news and heard about National Donut Day and thought…’Well, geez. If the iconic doughnut can have it’s own day, what about the iconic Adirondack chair?’” Stainer said in an interview Thursday with Butler Radio.
The company decided Friday- the first official day of summer- was the perfect day for the holiday.
“Even though this was a tongue-in-cheek campaign, there is something to be said about the iconic Adirondack chair,” he said. “It really embodies summer.”
The Adirondack chair was first created in 1903 by a man named Thomas Lee while he was vacationing in the Adirondack Mountains. Now, they’re constructed by roughly 300 employees in six warehouses in Portersville, Ellwood City and New Castle.
“Right here in the small town of Portersville is a company that is doing a lot of big things and working with the biggest-name retailers,” Stainer said. “We’re proud of what we do and we’re proud to employ a lot of folks from the local area.”
The company is sponsoring a contest on Facebook where people are invited to upload a picture of their Adirondack chair wherever they like enjoying it best.
