The Boston Red Sox made the biggest splash in Major League Baseball Free Agency thus far when they signed David Price to the largest pitching contract in history Tuesday. Price inked a contract worth $217 over seven years, or $31 million per season. The 30-year old Price pitched for Tampa Bay and Detroit last season.
Today is a contract deadline for major league teams. The Pittsburgh Pirates must have every unsigned player on their 40-man roster under contract by midnight tonight. The Pirates have only seven of those 40 signed for next season and beyond. Nine players, including Mark Melancon, Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez are eligible for arbitration.
