The longest active home winning streak in Division II football at home belongs to Slippery Rock University after the 10th ranked Rock held off number 19 Assumption College 41-39 Saturday in the second round of the NCAA playoffs at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The victory is the 17th consecutive home win for The Rock and sends the team into the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1998. The Rock (12-1), seeded second in Super Region One, will travel to the region’s top seed, Shepherd (11-0) this Saturday to play for a spot in the national semifinals. Shepherd rallied from 10 points down to defeat IUP 17-13 Saturday. The Crimson Hawks season ends at 9-3. Assumption’s season ended at 11-2 overall after making their first-ever NCAA playoff appearance.
Penn State head coach James Franklin fired offensive coordinator John Donovan following the Nittany Lions 55-16 loss to end their regular season Saturday at Michigan State. Penn State is now 7-5 and will await a bowl bid.
