The county will use federal grant money to purchase about 600 double-pack kits of the opioid reversal drug Narcan.
Each kit costs $75. No county money is being used.
Some Narcan will be kept in the county buildings. All employees are trained in how to administer the drug to someone who is experiencing an overdose.
Most of the kits will be distributed to outpatient treatment providers, recovery houses, school nurses and community members.
The Butler County commissioners unanimously approved the purchase on Wednesday. Commissioner Kevin Boozel said the federal government wants to make Narcan available in every location where an AED (automated external defibrillator) machine is.
This is not the first time the county has used grant money to purchase Narcan.
