The South Butler School Board has approved a final budget for the 2019-20 school year with no increase– or decrease– in taxes.
A general fund budget of just under $36 million in expenses for next year is expected to be fully funded, with a surplus, by holding the mileage rate constant at this year’s 94.275 rate.
Board member George Zacherl was the only member to vote against the budget during a school board meeting on Wednesday saying he was concerned about a lack of planning and vision for how the surplus would be used.
Several South Butler school board members voted in favor of a tax decrease when discussing the preliminary budget last month; however, those members said Wednesday they did not feel it made sense to revisit those discussions after that proposal failed to pass.
