Organizers of the Connoquenessing Creek Clean-up say they will continue to focus on the Butler County portion of the waterway next year.
Christina and Mike Handley (of the group Allegheny Aquatic Alliance) started to focus on cleaning up the creek four years ago. They were supposed to finish their efforts in Butler County this year but because of some weather and logistic issues, they were unable to complete the entire stretch.
They will be back to focus on a 5-mile stretch between the Oneida Valley Reservoir into Butler City before continuing in other counties.
This year’s efforts (which focused on 15 miles in the Butler area) collected nearly 59,000 pounds of garbage and 700 tires.
In total, 35 miles of the 50-mile water way have been cleaned.
