High School Sports:
PIAA Baseball:
–Franklin defeated Freeport 3-2 in the state 3A First Round at Slippery Rock University. Freeport had taken a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but Franklin won the game with a walk-off two-run single in the seventh.
–Serra Catholic defeated Moniteau 6-3 in the 2A First Round in DuBois.
–Pine-Richland defeated Manheim Township 2-0 in the 6A First Round. The Rams will meet North Allegheny in the quarterfinals Thursday.
–North Allegheny defeated Erie McDowell 10-2.
–New Castle defeated Warren 1-0 in the 4A First Round. The Red Hurricanes will meet Beaver Thursday in the quarterfinals. Beaver defeated Punxsutawney 13-3 in five innings Monday.
PIAA Softball:
–Grove City ended the Knoch Knights season 4-0 in the 4A First Round. Lizzie Malczak fired a one-hitter for Grove City. Knoch’s season ends at 18-3.
–North Allegheny lost to Central Dauphin 2-0.
