The sale of the property that was formerly Broad Street Elementary School is moving ahead.
The Butler School Board voted 7-2 Monday to approve the finalized sale agreement with The ARC of Butler County for $475,000. John Conrad and Bill Halle voted against the agreement. The agreement is contingent upon zoning approval from the city and approval from county Judge S. Michael Yeager. The hearing will take place at 9 a.m. on December 22.
Halle agreed to withdraw his lawsuit against the district (where he was seeking an injunction to halt the sale of the district’s four closed schools until the newly elected board members took their seats in December) in exchange for a meeting to serve as a forum for public input before each building is sold. A meeting will be held at Broad Street on Monday (Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m.) about the current proposed sale.
Butler Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley notified the board that J.M. Beatty Furniture, who originally made the second highest offer for the property, submitted a revised offer for $530,000 earlier in the day Monday. Alternate bids like this one can be considered at the hearing in December.
