Center Township has formally requested that Butler Township join in on a Tax Increment Financing plan…also known as a TIF.
At a meeting Monday night, the Butler Township commissioners were joined by several Center Township supervisors, lawyers, and engineers to discuss plans for land near where the new VA facility is being built.
According to the developer of that facility, Cambridge, other businesses and organizations have expressed interest in moving nearby. A TIF is an agreement by the taxing agencies of an area to commit tax revenue for infrastructure instead of collecting as they normally would.
The deal could also possibly involve PennDOT’s plans to demolish the Lions Road Bridge and reroute traffic through the missing cloverleaf at Route 422.
Although Butler Township asked many questions of those proposing the plan, no action was taken.
